Usually a drawing is made on anything that is available then a plasticene model is produced in a small size with no real facial features, then either a plaster model or a clay model is built up in full size plus a bit to compensate for overall shrinkage. After that molds are cast in hydrocal gypsum plaster so that the piece may be made in cast slip clay or porcelain.
