~ Hugo Chavez and Colin Powell ~ ID 3200 June 9, 2008
You can probably see by the dates of these chapters that I’m sometimes having trouble communicating the content and that is the case with this one. I date the chapters when they are finished and begin the next at that point. Most of the research has been done long ago so they should really come about on a daily basis but there is more information in all these recently discovered conspiracy videos so that is added, and I might as well admit it, largely controls the direction of these passages. The trick is to recognize when the video is speculating and fearmongering and an attempt is made to cull that out and combine the underground perspective with the official government view found everywhere else. This story concerns Power Pictures 2002 production in association with The Irish Film Board, edited by Angel H Zoido, executive producer Rod Stoneman, produced by David Power and called `The Revolution will not be televised’. A complete listing of all reference conspiracy videos is found in the appendix along with methods of downloading them.
General Colin Luther Powell, 65th Secretary of State (Jan 2001 to Jan 2005), 12th Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, 16th National Security Advisor to the US, born in 1937 along with White House staff news announcer Ari Fleischer attempted to influence the Americans and the rest of the World in a negative way about the actual events that were taking place in Venezuela beginning in 1998. Personally I have become quite depressed about the findings contained in these films but somehow manage to watch them over and over again to glean the detail and make notes.
Hugo Chavez, inspired by Simon Bolivar who had liberated Venezuela from Spanish rule in the 19th century was elected democratically as President in 1998 and this deeply concerned the US because Venezuela was the worlds’ fourth largest producer and exporter of oil. Obviously American concern was not that the oil would continue to be exported but that they would have to pay fair market price and not be able to control it. Hugo was openly critical of the US and neo-liberalism in which the wealthy are attempting to gain control of everything. This new world order is making a mockery of the constitutional freedoms and rights that the US is supposed to be based upon. The wealthy and successful have always tried to gain control of natural resources and governments themselves were supposed to keep these thing things from happening. For the people, by the people and of the people really meant something to Venezuelans and the American power structure should have applauded this but it did not.
Hugo put himself on the line for his people. He stated that he might someday have go to the gates of hell for their salvation, meaning that international and internal pressure groups might one day cause him great physical or mental pain but he was a populist president like his friend Fidel Castro of Cuba and the Americans eagerly sought a method to dispose of such honest men. Is that type of attitude not the crime of the century when the established powers view the good as evil?
Hugo’s government was a hands-on system in which ordinary people would write notes or letters about the problems that they were having and simply pass them to any government official who in turn would see that they were delivered to the ladies and gentlemen who read these notes within the Chavez system, collate them into common areas, respond where necessary and file all and sundry. The note could be on a scrap of paper or anything and they would still be treated as important and acted on accordingly. Hugo had a television show on Channel 8 where the ordinary people could call in and he would deal with their individual problems on the spot. This is not to say that the system was perfect but it cared most sincerely about the people unlike the previous dictatorship under Pedro Carmona in which all citizens were disallowed from communicating unless they represented power and money. Eighty percent of Venezuelas’ population is poor even though the country is overflowing with wealth and has been for years but under the Carmona regime all the revenues were kept by those that held power and Chavez was changing all that and passing the wealth of the country to the people. He passed a new constitution in 1999 and made the campesinos (common people) aware of their rights. Chavez is a non-white and had led a coup against the government in 1992 that failed and he was imprisoned but it turned him into a popular hero because the people hated the regime he tried to overthrow.
There were five private TV channels controlled by his old adversaries namely Carlos Ortega head of CTV trade unions with strong ties to the old political system and oddly enough under their own regime of dictator Carlos Ortega free speech was not allowed but under Chavez he allowed these forked tongue repressors to speak as if they were the official opposition. They said all manner of unspeakable thing against Hugo and constantly called into question his sanity, sexuality and fitness to rule but the people loved Hugo with a passion and trusted him and even the army was firmly on his side, a small difference that would weigh heavily in future. This was early in 2002 when Carmona who was president of Venezuelas’ largest business federation and Ortega went to see President Bush in Washington where obviously a plan to overthrow Hugo was hatched. Imagine, if you will the head of a democratic state namely the USA meeting publicly with the opposition and previous dictator of the first democratically elected government of Venezuela and joining this dictator and his cohorts in bad mouthing someone with impeccable credentials like Chavez, while at the same time, preaching the virtue of bringing democracy to Afghanistan and Iraq.
Enter Colin Powell on national TV; "We have been concerned with the actions of President Chavez and his.. (hand gestures) understanding of what a democratic system is all about." Well hell yes! Chavez does not look at a democratic system the way the Bush administration does.. Powell goes on to elaborate on his innuendo that Chavez is somehow doing something wrong and in doing so causing the Americans to act in concert with Carmona to correct the situation but he is not specific in anything he says. Powell is followed by a lesser member of the Bush spin team supposedly an independent news caster who claims "President Chavez is consorting with Narco-Terrorists in Columbia" and there goes their big card `terrorists’ which means that the Americans can do pretty much anything the rid the world of someone who actually knows `terrorists’ or at least the US says he does. What really irked the Americans was while Chavez was making his weekly newscast on channel 8 he said that he too wanted an end to terrorism but not in the way that it was presently being pursued and he held up pictures of children that had been bombed by mistake (the Americans claimed).
Caracas was deeply divided and the Chavez people were starting to get involved in politics because at last they had a government that cared about them and had raised the price of oil to the competitive level and their new constitution guaranteed them a share of this wealth and they could see it happening in an emerging and growing infrastructure. The opposition was composed of the old regime and those business interests that profited from the sale of the oil to the Americans and along with their control of all of the media except Channel 8 were trying desperately to discredit the government and began to create discontent with this huge media power. They held residents meetings on the wealthier side of town and worked toward a mass rally April 11 in which a march was planned on the State Oil Company. It is rumored that the Americans frequently send agitators to this kind of event to imbalance things and make the government appear to be violent when it’s actually a reaction to violence. The commentary was about half over and I was not privy to the outcome, but so used to these cruel and greedy American tactics that I could not continue to watch and I quit for the night. I was also concerned that as many have suspected in the deaths of Martin Luther King and John F Kennedy, American agents would probably have shooters in the buildings to create the havoc required for a coup and that would be how the newscast ended with the arrest and death of another of my heroes so I left it until another day.
I decided to write the story anyway and include the damning remarks of Colin Powell who is very well known for the things he told the United Nations and the World about Iraqs’ `Weapons of Mass Destruction’ which completely damaged his integrity and he was asked to resign in November 2004, which he did. This popular and trusted African American was continually used by the US Presidency as a spokesman to color the views of people both in America and overseas so that outrageous means could be used to bring foreign countries into submission and that is exactly what was happening in Venezuela. The privately owned television, radio and newspaper media were keying off of Powell’s remarks and developing a successful rally made up of wealthy and middle class Venezuelans demonstrating against Chavez’ promise to alter the state owned oil company so that all citizens would benefit directly from sales rather than just the power structure of the wealthy. The CIA and the State Department had also made televised remarks plainly citing the oil as the basis for their concern and their mistrust of Chavez. Even though the Army in Venezuela was very loyal to Hugo there were some generals that had their opinion televised that Chavez should step down and hinted at a coup being prepared. Meanwhile this air of confrontation had caused a huge number of Chavez supporters to assemble outside the Palace and the march that was taking place on the oil company was illegally diverted toward a confrontation between these two factions.
The crowd of anti Chavez people were being whipped up into a blood frenzy by skillful hands concealed within the organizers and they committed minor acts of violence along the route destroying property. The army attempted to be a buffer between the two groups but when they came face to face shots rang out and people dropped from fatal head wounds obviously caused by professional snipers. Chavez people appealed for calm and asked the supporters not to retaliate but a considerable number of citizens carry guns in Venezuela and many could not resist firing in the direction of the suspected shooters. The chaos factor had succeeded and the televised pictures, not of the original snipers who were invisible but of the Chavez supporters, that evening, seemed to lay the cause of the killings squarely on the government of Hugo Chavez. At this point I had seen enough as the bodies of the sniper killed were hauled inside the Palace gates by army personal and I was beginning to think that I would write the story and just guess the ending knowing full well that Hugo would also wind up dead or imprisoned, but then that wouldn’t work. I struggled on. The pain of watching a one hour video commentary had already stretched it out to a two day affair but I had to know how to finish the story.
The private TV channels under the direction of Carmona and Ortega only showed the Chavez supporters firing weapons and they deliberately stated that they were firing on innocent marchers leaving the impression that those who died were the responsibility of the President and there was several outcries for his resignation. Those in the Palace tried to communicate through channel eight but at nine thirty the power cable was cut and they could not respond to the accusations. This was classical coup style and Carmona announced to the world that there were some small pockets of resistance but the revolution was over and the army was instructed to surround the Palace and bomb it if Chavez would not surrender. At about 10 pm the army generals entered the palace and demanded the resignation of Chavez but he refused to do so and the threat of bombing the palace was made to him so about 3 am after considerable discussion he gave up to their custody but would not resign. Carmona announced that a provisional government would be set up.
Friday morning April 12 all the details of the coup were revealed on the private TV stations as they had Chavez under arrest and being held by the army and the participants laughed and joked about it for all the public to see. In America the press secretary Ari Fleischer stood before the great American seal backdrop and boldly stated "Let me share with you the administrations thoughts about what is taking place in Venezuela. We know that actions encouraged by the Chavez government provoked this crisis. The Chavez government suppressed peaceful demonstrations, fired on unarmed peaceful protesters resulting in ten killed and 100 wounded. That is what took place and a transitional civilian government has been installed." This is from the whitehouse and what could be further from the truth? Is this democracy? Are these people really pretending to be representative of American citizens? Why has no one ever been brought to account for such statements? Meanwhile in Caracas the Carmona coup generals and supporters began occupying the palace and the so-called provisional government was actually the handing over of all control to Pedro Carmona on a silver platter. He responded thanking all Venezuelan people for their complete support and assured the public that everything was well under control and a peaceful transition to a full democratic government would be taking place. However the national assembly was immediately dissolved as well as the supreme court. The attorney general was dismissed, the head of the central bank, the ombudsman, the national electoral board and in general a full dictatorship was bestowed on Carmona while the police ranged throughout the country suppressing the growing dissatisfaction with this extremely undemocratic process.
The Minister of Justice was televised being handcuffed and all government officials were told that they must accept the situation or leave. Chavez supporters had been able to communicate with the outside world that he had not really resigned and the people became aware of this and moved into the streets all that evening and night chanting and becoming more and more angry at the deception. The morning of the 13th was electric. People had filled the streets of Caracas saying that there had to be a referendum to remove Chavez and they very vocally displayed their support for him and all began to move toward the palace. Meanwhile Carmona and his cronies just kept on making announcements that everything was back to normal and assured the international community that they were fully in charge.
At the palace gates the crowd swelled to thousands upon thousands and they chanted that they did not want another dictatorship and that their newly written constitution had been violated. About 1 pm the palace guards had now become fully aware that Carmona had duped them into his service and a plot was developed to retake the government and undo the coup at this late stage. At 2 o’clock the signal was given as the guards had surrounded the palace but Carmona and some of the generals had slipped away in the confusion taking the contents of the safe with them including all the cash. Many officials had remained and were detained, unhurt in the basement while the real ministers slowly came back to re-establish the legitimate government and prepared to find out where Hugo Chavez was being held and get him back. Many reporters were in the building as they held their first ministers meeting to get organized but the private TV stations refused to make any announcement or carry any information about the retaking of the palace. Supporters were trying to get Channel 8 back on the air as tens of thousands Chavez supporters cheered outside the palace gates. The attorney general and the ombudsman went to the prisoners in the basement, one of whom had dissolved both positions only yesterday and they were assured that their rights would not be violated. At about 4.30 the president of the Chavez national assembly, another illegally dissolved entity announced on channel 8 via a telephone that the pronouncements of Pedro Carmona which were simultaneously being made were false and the palace was no longer in their hands as Carmona was claiming.
Temporarily the vice president was placed in charge and he pleaded with the army generals not to fire on the nearly one million Chavez supporters outside regardless of what their orders were from Carmona. At 8.00 pm Channel 8 went back on the air and a high ranking army general spoke to his troops and told they must regroup because Hugo Rafael Chavez was the only president of Venezuela and they must regain the trust of the people. Much support began pouring in as the troops realized that they had been lied to and one call stated that an American registered plane had landed where Chavez was being held and the US plan was to take him out of the country. The newly sworn in president gave immediate orders to three commando units to fly out and get Chavez back. At about 2.50 am a helicopter arrived at the palace with Hugo aboard and the noise of horns, palace guard band and cheering "He’s Back! He’s Back" was deafening. Carmona was placed under house arrest and then fled to Columbia and later wound up in Miami. Carlos Ortega went into hiding but reappeared when Chavez announced that there would no witch hunt and now helps lead the opposition. The dissident generals were expelled from the army and most left the country but some remained to be in the opposition.
In America Colin Powell came on the air and said "We support democracy, we support the community of democracy that exists here in our hemisphere. Surly we have had disagreements with President Chavez in the past and we may well have them in the future..." and he went on to change his rhetoric from the previous attack and conspiracy position to one of apparent co-operation but his place in history as a co conspirator of a dictatorship in the name of oil and wealth is well known.
Chavez was reelected in 2006 and today is still getting flack from the US even though he represents everything the US purports to stand for. In 2005 and 2006 he was named to Time magazine’s 100 most influential men and goes on my wall beside Che Guevara.
Colin’s picture goes on my dart board.

Added Dec 1, 2008 Newscast ~ Interesting times we live in. For those who want to have a deeper understanding in why the government ALLOWED the failure of Lehman Brothers (and why they bailed out other banks), please read the following articles. You see, Venezuela (Hugo Chavez) owned an estimated 300 million to 2 billion in Lehman Brothers. Our government was sending Hugo a message. WE DON’T LIKE YOU. We’ll rescue China and Russia, but not you! (This is typical of the Americans under the Bank/Army controlling shadow government but again nothing that you would expect from a real democracy. NS)
